Junior Stacey Barron found the back of the net at the 32:18 mark of the first half, but the Marquette Catholic High School girls soccer team was unable to recover from a pair of early goals in a 4-1 defeat to Andrean on Monday evening at Father Eckert Field in Merrillville.
“This was a phenomenal soccer game. The score really didn’t reflect the play on the field. I felt the girls played their best game yet this season,” head coach Lacey Hersman said.
Tessa Wojkovich (9′) and Hanna Sarosy (11′) provided the Lady Niners with a two-goal cushion less than 12 minutes into the match.
Barron sliced the deficit in half just before the intermission to boost MQT to within a score. However, Wojkovich extended the lead to 3-1 just eight minutes into the second half.
Freshman Nikki Melton nearly closed the gap with 28 minutes left in regulation, but her attempt was lifted just over the crossbar. Andrean added an insurance tally at the 65-minute mark courtesy of Alyssa Schichner.
MQT (7-2-1) will aim to return to its winning ways Wednesday evening at Bishop Noll. The Lady Blazers and Lady Warriors are scheduled to square off at 7 pm CT in Hammond.
