The Marquette Catholic softball team kept its season-opening shutout streak alive as it blanked Hammond Clark 11-0 and 17-0 on Saturday in Whiting.
Lauren McConnell twirled her second consecutive perfect game, retiring all 15 batters she faced in the Lady Blazers’ 11-0 run-rule win. The first 12 Pioneers that opposed the junior went down on strikes. McConnell coerced 13 Ks in total.
Summer Johnson nailed down the doubleheader sweep with a shutout her own, scattering four hits over five innings in the circle.
Offensively, center fielder Marissa Morales accumulated six runs on the day while freshman Ally McConnell blasted her first career home run in the second game as part of a six-run, three-RBI afternoon.
Marquette posted eight runs in the fifth inning of the opener before plating nine in the third inning of the second tilt to put both games out of reach.
MQT (5-0-1) has yet to be scored upon in its first six games. The Lady Blazers will open Greater South Shore Conference action Monday afternoon when they play host to River Forest at 5 pm at the Marquette Athletic Complex.
