Senior Stacey Barron netted her 100th career goal at the 38:44 mark of the second half of Marquette’s postseason opener versus Morgan Township as the Lady Blazers rolled to a 9-0 victory In Valparaiso.
Barron finished the evening with five goals while Michaela Jennings and Kathryn DePalma chipped in two apiece. Claire Salyer piled up four assists and Nadia Flores recorded the clean sheet in net for Marquette.
Jennings put the Lady Blazers on the scoreboard six minutes into the contest when she headed home a corner kick off the foot of Salyer. Salyer set up DePalma just three-and-a-half minutes later to nudge MQT ahead 2-0.
It remained 2-0 until Jennings and Barron found the back of the net four times in the final nine minutes, 39 seconds of the half. Barron tallied the hat trick thanks to feeds from three different players (DePalma, 9:10; Salyer, 2:05; Jennings, 1:22).
Armed with a 6-0 halftime cushion, Marquette maintained the offensive pressure in the early stages of the closing half.
Barron’s 99th career goal came with 1:22 remaining in the first half; her 100th came 1:16 into the second stanza. Jennings was credited with the assist on her classmate’s milestone score.
Barron logged her fifth goal of the night with 35:04 remaining on the clock before DePalma made it 9-0 on a setup by Olivia Burkhart.
Marquette (14-3) moves on to meet Bishop Noll on Thursday evening at 5 pm CT in the semifinals of the IHSAA Wheeler Sectional.
