Marquette Catholic High School
Bremen High School
Marquette set, controlled, and commanded the offensive tempo in its postseason opener Wednesday night against Bremen, but the Lions managed to escape with a 3-1 victory at Elkhart Christian Academy.
The Blazers appeared to break open the scoring at the 15-minute mark of the first half, but the goal was waved off following an offsides call. MQT continued to pepper the Bremen keeper with scoring chances, but found itself on the wrong end of a 1-0 score at half.
The Lions doubled their lead early in the second half, but Will Cannon responded 51 seconds later with a blast from outside the box.
Marquette had numerous chances the rest of the way; however, Bremen found the back of the net with 14 minutes remaining to pad its lead.
The Blazers out-shot the Lions 20-10 on the evening.
Marquette concludes its season at 10-5-2. Wednesday also marks the end of seven illustrious Marquette careers: Cannon, Connor Donaldson, Brendan Stadler, Jack White, Joe Disser, Myron Romanyshak, and Bryan Gonzalez.
