With the stroke of a pen Thursday, Marquette boys’ golf standout Johnny Roder became a Greyhound.
Roder has enjoyed a run as one of the most accomplished boys’ golfers in recent program history. He amassed a 39.44 nine-hole average as a junior last season, a campaign that included first-place finishes at the IHSAA LaPorte Sectional and the Greater South Shore Conference Championship.
The lefty saw his game take off over the summer when he shaved a full stroke off his 18-hole average (77.61). Roder recorded a podium finish with a third-place result at Rock Hollow Junior and took sixth place at the Age Group Championship. He opened the 2018 season Wednesday with an even-par 36 at Beechwood GC in LaPorte.
Roder, who boasts a 4.06 grade-point average, will graduate with summa cum laude honors this May.
