For hoops fans across Michigan City and LaPorte County, a decade-long wait is over.
Michigan City director of athletics Craig Shaman and Marquette Catholic director of athletics Katie Collignon made a joint announcement Monday that the two schools’ boys basketball squads will square off beginning in the winter of 2019.
“I want to thank Craig and (head boys basketball) Coach (Tom) Wells for making this come to fruition. It’s a great opportunity for both schools and the community,” Collignon said.
“We couldn’t be happier to be resuming this series with our partners in education here in Michigan City. This is a win-win-win for MCHS, Marquette, and the people of this town, and we can’t wait to see you all in the Wolves Den this November!,” Shaman said.
The Blazers and Wolves will execute the first tilt of a four-year contract Saturday, November 30th at 7 pm at Michigan City High School. The boys contest will serve as the back-end of a varsity-only doubleheader with the girls slated to tip off at 5:30 pm. The twinbill will then shift back to the Scholl Center on the corresponding date in 2020.
Marquette and Michigan City last met on November 25th, 2009.
