Marquette cross country traveled across the state line Saturday to compete in a crowded field at the Portage Invite in Michigan.
Senior Jake Tarnow stopped the clock at 17:01.8 in the 5k race to finish comfortably in the top 10 percentile of racers. He snagged 31st place out of 373.
William Bogan followed Tarnow with a time of 18:36.7. Sophomore Wil Crane covered the course in 20:57.6 while freshman Hudson Marshall clocked a 23:03.0 in his first race as a Blazer.
Braydon Flores crossed the line at 25:13.3 and freshman Jake Zientarski was 19 seconds behind Flores.
On the girls’ side, freshman Mary Cate Neary paced the Blazers with a time of 23:58.3. Kenzie Losinski continued a strong sophomore season with a 25:09.5 finish. Freshman Ava Zientarski followed at 26:49.5.
Saturday’s race served as the squad’s final tuneup before next weekend’s IHSAA sectionals. That race is scheduled for Saturday morning at New Prairie High School.
