Marquette outscored Career Academy South Bend 42-26 in the first and third quarters Saturday night in South Bend. But the host Trailblazers returned the favor to the tune of a 42-19 margin in the even-numbered periods to collect a 68-61 victory over the Blazers.
Marquette drained eight three-pointers on the evening. Underclassmen Brit Harris (3) and Gary Lewis (3) accounted for six of them while senior Jake Tarnow canned the other two.
Lewis led the Blazers in scoring with 15 points while fellow freshman Jason Kobe contributed 14. Harris followed with 13 and Tarnow tallied 12.
The Blazers took a 52-50 lead into the fourth quarter, but were held to just nine points over the final eight minutes.
Marquette will have a week to prepare for the Roncalli Classic held in Indianapolis on Dec. 28th. The Blazers will square off against Guerin Catholic in the opener before facing the host Rebels in the evening tilt.
