Senior Ryleigh Grott matched her season watermark in scoring with 25 points Saturday afternoon as Marquette blew past Portage Christian 63-28 at the Scholl Center.
Grott paced the Blazers with eight first-quarter points. Freshman Shena Fleming loaded her stat sheet early on with five points, three assists, and three steals across the opening eight minutes.
Marquette’s 19-4 lead after one quarter extended to 39-14 by halftime. Grott went off for 11 points in the second frame. Junior Ana Blakely got in on the fun with five points of her own.
The Blazers benefitted from a balanced scoring attack in the third period. Fleming accounted for six, Grott tossed in four, and senior Mary Kate Bobillo and Izabel Galindo tallied three apiece.
Sophomores Addison Johnson and Xaria Biggerstaff made their mark in the scoring column with three and two points, respectively.
Grott’s 25 points led all scorers. Fleming ended the day with a highly-productive 13 points, seven assists, and five steals.
Marquette (8-5) will put its three-game winning streak on the line Tuesday at Lacrosse in the team’s final road game of the 2020-21 campaign. Tip-off of the varsity-only tilt is scheduled for 6 pm.
