The opening quarter of the first game back from the Christmas holiday rarely produces highlight-reel moments. Tuesday’s Red and Blue Classic opener versus Winamac was no exception, but junior Kaden Manna and the Blazers found their stride in a dominant second quarter en route to a 55-37 win over Winamac at Boone Grove High School.
Manna finished with a hefty double-double, accruing 20 points and 18 boards. He recorded a pair of and-1s early on in the second quarter to flip an 8-6 hole into a 33-15 halftime lead.
Junior Brit Harris added 10 points and assisted on six baskets in support.
Tuesday represented the Blazers’ best defensive performance of the season to date. In allowing 37 points – just 23 through three quarters – Marquette lowered its season defensive average from 73.6 PPG to 69 PPG.
The win boosts the Blazers into the 6:30 pm game versus host Boone Grove. The Wolves topped Lake Station 65-46 in the morning tilt.
