Six Blazers recorded a hit in Monday’s season opener at John Glenn, but Marquette was undone by seven errors in a 9-3 setback to the Falcons.
Sophomore Cormack Bardol opened the scoring with an infield single that plated Karsen Grott. Grott, who had reached via a leadoff walk, advanced into scoring position following a Brandon Spangler double.
Marquette’s 1-0 lead evaporated in the home half of the third when the Falcons had six runners cross the plate.
Freshman Jonathan Allen and senior Tommy Gotsch notched back-to-back RBIs in the fifth to slice the margin to 6-3, but John Glenn tacked on three insurance tallies in its last at-bat.
The Blazers (0-1) return to the diamond Tuesday afternoon when it travels to Illiana Christian. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 pm CT.
