Buddy Jaffee set the tone early with four first-quarter treys as Marquette delivered a 72-46 victory over former Greater South Shore Conference-foe North Newton Tuesday night in the Sectional 34 opener at Hebron High School.
Jaffee was one of three Blazers to finish in double figures as he did so before the second period. He splashed four threes in the game’s first six-and-a-half minutes to help Marquette to an 18-13 lead after one quarter.
Senior Chandler Goodwin accounted for seven points in the second as the Blazers’ lead arrived at double digits. Jaffee, who drew two early fouls, was relegated to the bench for the remainder of the half. Nevertheless, Marquette was on top 34-21 at the break.
Colin Kenney made his way into double figures in the third quarter, scoring eight of his team-high 17 in the frame. Tommy Gotsch and Joe Andershock both added four. The Blazers took a 55-35 edge into the fourth.
Gotsch registered eight straight points in the final quarter to conclude with a season-high 14 points.
Marquette prevailed 72-46 over the Spartans. The Blazers hit eight threes a team, including five from Jaffee, who had 15 points.
MQT (11-14) advances to Friday’s sectional semifinal where it’ll face Winamac Community at 5:30 pm. The Blazers knocked off the Warriors 67-44 at the Scholl Center earlier this season.
