Senior Johnny Roder started the spring season off right Wednesday with an even-par 36 to pace Marquette to a 199 team total at Beechwood GC in LaPorte.
The Blazers took home second place, finishing 10 strokes back of host LaPorte, and 16 shots ahead of New Prairie.
Roder recorded par on the first three holes before taking a bogey on No. 4. The lefty got back on track with a birdie on No. 7, a 420-yard par 4.
Junior Michael Sakich carded a 47 thanks to stellar play on the par 3s. He parred the 120-yard No. 3, then registered a birdie on the 225-yard No. 8.
Freshman Romeo Bui and sophomore William Bogan rounded out the scoring for the Blazers with rounds of 58 each.
Marquette (1-1) returns to the links this Saturday when it hosts the Marquette Catholic Invitational at Michigan City GC. Tee-off is slated for 12 pm.
