The depth of the 2018-19 Lady Blazers was on full display Saturday morning at Caston High School in Rochester. Morgan Crook splashed six three-pointers en route to tying a career-best 21 points on the same day Emmery Joseph became just the ninth player in Indiana high school girls basketball history to reach 600 career assists.

A strangling defensive effort carried Marquette to a 51-28 triumph over South Central. The victory scooted the club into a regional championship game for the third straight year.

Crook, who canned six of her ten three-point tries, opened the scoring with a trey. It started a 9-0 rally that set the tone. Sophia Nolan accounted for Marquette’s final six points of the first quarter as she helped the Lady Blazers to an 11-3 lead after eight minutes.

Crook and Claire Salyer combined for all 14 Marquette points in the second stanza. Joseph fed Salyer on a triple at the 2:35 mark to secure the historical milestone.

The Lady Blazers’ demonstrative defensive effort spilled over as South Central was handcuffed offensively. After managing just one field goal in the opening quarter, South Central was limited to two in the second.

Marquette led 25-11 at halftime.

Any chance of a South Central comeback was quelled by a 12-0 Marquette surge to open the second half. As she had done in each of the previous two quarters, Crook buried a three to record the first points. She matched her season high in points (17) by the conclusion of the third period.

Emma Nolan got in on the fun with six of her own in the third. Meanwhile, the Lady Blazers surrendered just four points in the period.

Crook swished her sixth and final three-pointer of the contest in the last frame as Marquette cruised to a 51-28 win.

Sophia Nolan joined Crook in double figures with 12 points. Salyer finished with eight points and eight rebounds – seven of which came on the offensive end.

Marquette (24-2) will face Fremont in Saturday evening’s regional championship tilt at 8 pm ET/7 pm CT at Caston High School. Fremont defeated Pioneer 52-39 in the other semifinal game.
