Behind a pair of second-half goals – including the match-winner from senior Claire Salyer – Marquette seized a 3-1 victory over East Chicago Central Wednesday night as the program celebrated Senior Night.
The Lady Blazers had to play catch-up as ECC broke open the scoring in the 21st minute. Sophomore Riley Lindsey answered back, though, with 4:11 remaining on the first-half clock.
Salyer unfastened a 1-1 tie with 19:54 remaining in regulation when she beat the Lady Cardinals keeper on a free kick.
Freshman Halana Herrera provided the Lady Blazers with an insurance score 15 minutes later to put the match on ice.
Senior McKena Moore recorded six saves in net in her final match at the MAC.
Marquette honored its eight graduating seniors (Nathaly Reynaga, Mika Finney, Kassandra Loza, Moore, Summer Johnson, Dia Rallings, Ukari Payne, and Salyer) following the tilt.
The Lady Blazers (5-9-1) will open sectional play next Tuesday versus Morgan Township at 5 pm. Wheeler High School is serving at the sectional host.
