Some 30 minutes after facing a 2-1 deficit, junior Riley Lindsey put the finishing touches on a hat trick with the match-winner in the 72nd minute. The goal, which was set up by Maddie Rowley, was the difference in a 3-2 Blazer victory Saturday afternoon at the Marquette Athletic Complex.
Lindsey found the back of the net on a direct kick to register the first goal of the match. Washington Township, however, erased the deficit before the intermission.
The Rowley-to-Lindsey combo fueled the Blazer comeback as both scores spawned from free kicks.
Lindsey’s second goal of the afternoon tied it at 2-2 with less than 20 minutes to go. Her match-winner came with 8:08 remaining in regulation.
Blazer keeper Sydney Burroughs and the Blazer defense withstood a late Washington Township rush to preserve the win.
For Lindsey, Saturday represented her second hat trick of the season (Sept. 5th vs. River Forest).
Marquette will open the week Monday afternoon at Hebron in a 5 pm tilt.
