In a tilt between two Sectional 33 opponents, Marquette fell 68-54 to Andrean in a game of runs at the Scholl Center Saturday afternoon.
Marquette came out with a bang in the opening quarter, parlaying runs of 7-0 and 9-0 to seize an 18-8 lead after eight minutes.
Harris canned a corner triple before feeding Gary Lewis for one of his own. Sophomore Lukas Balling handled the scoring in the paint with six points.
Marquette’s lead ballooned to as many as 14 points early in the second stanza. The Blazer defense limited Andrean to three field goals through the first 11 minutes.
However, the 59ers found their footing offensively in the half’s waning moments.
Andrean received six points from Gabe Gillespie and five from Ben Jones in a second period where it outscored Marquette 14-8. The Blazers held a 26-22 edge at the intermission.
The 59ers’ momentum from the second-quarter run spilled over into the second half.
The contest saw ties at 30-30, 32-32, and 35-35 until Andrean closed the stanza on a 13-0 surge. Behind 10 third-quarter points from Gillespie, Andrean outscored Marquette 26-9 in the period to take a 48-35 lead into the final frame.
Nick Flesher scored 16 of his game-high 21 points in the second half, including eight in the fourth quarter to secure a 68-54 final.
Kaden Manna erupted for 11 second-half points to finish with 13. Lewis added six in the fourth quarter to match Manna’s 13 points. Balling chipped in 10 as the Blazers ended the day with three in double figures.
Marquette (12-5) returns to action Monday evening at East Chicago Central at 7 pm.
