For the third time in four games, senior Ally McConnell scored in double figures, but the Blazers hit another second-half wall as they fell 61-25 at Andrean on Thursday.
Both teams traded scoring runs in the opening quarter. The 59ers accounted for the first 12 points of the evening before Marquette assembled a 10-0 response. McConnell and junior Mary Kate Bobilllo both hit threes in the first as four Blazers appeared in the scoring column after eight minutes.
McConnell knocked down another trey in the second quarter. Her five points in the stanza kept Marquette keep it a two-possession contest. The Blazers scored in their final possession of the first half, but an Andrean buzzer-beater made it a 25-19 ballgame at the break.
Just as it did last Thursday in South Bend, a six-point halftime deficit ballooned in the closing quarters for the Blazers.
Sophomore Ana Blakely and junior Ryleigh Grott handled the scoring in the third quarter, but Andrean outscored Marquette 20-4 to expand its cushion to 22 points.
McConnell added a fourth-quarter basket to finish with 12 points on the evening. The senior averaged 20.0 points per game this week.
Marquette (2-2) seeks to get back above the .500 mark next Tuesday at Westville. JV tips off at 5 pm with varsity slated to get underway at 6:30 pm.
