Riley Lindsey netted two goals in the final minute of the first half Tuesday evening versus Morgan Township, but the visiting Cherokees spoiled Marquette’s Senior Night with a 4-2 win.
MT was the beneficiary of a Marquette own goal three-and-a-half minutes into the match to open the scoring. The Cherokees struck exactly ten minutes later to expand their cushion to two goals.
Lindsey and the Blazers found themselves chasing a three-goal deficit heading toward the end of the half when the junior converted on a free kick with 1:00 on the clock. Forty three seconds later, Lindsey finished on a beautiful setup from classmate Maddie Rowley to make it 3-2.
The Blazers had a number of scoring chances in the second half, but were unable to find the equalizer. Morgan Township added an insurance tally in the 46th minute.
Freshman Sydney Burroughs logged 17 saves in net for the Blazers.
Marquette honored graduating seniors Janaya Blakely and Sydni Thomas, who were accompanied by family and classmates, prior to the match.
The Blazers close out the regular season Wednesday night at East Chicago Central. The two sides are set to tangle at 5 pm.
