All five starters posted double-digit scoring totals Thursday evening as Marquette coasted to a 78-44 triumph over Career Academy South Bend at the Scholl Center.
Sophomores Lukas Balling and Gary Lewis shared team-high scoring honors with 13 points apiece. Junior Britain Harris recorded 12 while Kaden Manna and Jason Kobe each poured in 11 points.
Marquette worked through a slow start thanks to stellar perimeter shooting. Lewis splashed three treys while Harris canned two in the opening period. The Blazers scored the final eight points of the quarter to lead 19-10.
The Blazer defense kept Career Academy South Bend scoreless for the first four-and-a-half minutes of the second period while the offense completed a 16-0 run. Lewis (11) and Harris (10) were in double figures by halftime as Marquette led 42-17.
Balling, Kobe, and Manna joined their counterparts in double figures by the third period. Senior Lee Kellom and sophomore Brandon Welch scored eight and six, respectively, during the fourth.
The 78-44 win represented Marquette (9-3)’s eighth in as many games. The Blazers will return to the court next Saturday (Jan. 16) when they host Hobart at the Scholl Center. JV will tip-off at 3 pm with varsity to follow at 4:30 pm.
