Senior Ally McConnell and junior Ryleigh Grott combined for 38 points and 30 rebounds Wednesday night in a 48-32 triumph over Calumet New Tech in Gary.
McConnell recorded a game-high 23 points to go with eight rebounds. Wednesday marked her third consecutive contest with 20 or more points and her fourth on the season.
Grott compiled a most impressive double-double. She posted 15 points and 22 rebounds to accompany five assists and four blocked shots. Grott’s 22 rebounds are the most known ever by a Marquette girls basketball player. Emma Nolan squeezed 17 boards three times in her career, the most recent occurring back on January 27th, 2018.
The Blazers and Warriors played to an 8-8 tie after eight minutes. Marquette opened the second stanza with a 12-1 run to commandeer a lead it would never relinquish.
McConnell (10) and Grott (8) teamed up to register all 18 of their team’s second-quarter points.
A 26-14 halftime lead ballooned to 21 points after three periods. Izabel Galindo scored all five of her points in the third quarter while Grott made two baskets and assisted on two others.
McConnell closed out her monster night with six fourth-quarter points.
Marquette (5-7) returns home Friday evening to host Gary Roosevelt at 7 pm.
