Ally McConnell took to the Scholl Center court for the final time Saturday afternoon and did not disappoint. The senior poured in 27 points – including three treys – but Marquette fell to visiting Lighthouse College Prep Academy 63-39 in the regular season finale.

McConnell accounted for the Blazers’ first 18 points. Junior Riley Lindsey snapped that streak with a buzzer-beating basket to end the first half. Marquette trailed 34-20 at the break.

McConnell sank two triples in the third quarter but the Lions gained separation in the stanza, outscoring the Blazers 21-8.

Four Blazers scored in the final frame with junior Izabel Galindo and freshman Sade Anderson-Hernandez knocking down threes. Marquette cut into the margin a bit in the fourth period, but the deficit was too much.

McConnell exited to a standing ovation with 10 seconds remaining. She finished with a team-high 27 points to boost her season scoring average to 19.2 points per game. Only Emma Nolan has averaged more points per game over a season (20.5 PPG, 2017-18; 19.9 PPG, 2018-19) in the program’s history.

Saturday signaled the end of the regular season for Marquette (9-12) which will open postseason play Friday at 6 pm at Whiting High School. The Blazers will square off against the winner of the Tuesday Lake Station/Bishop Noll tilt.
