The Marquette girls soccer team is celebrating Senior Day on Wednesday, but Claire Salyer started the gala a day early. The senior recorded a hat trick and a pair of assists in the Lady Blazers’ 5-1 win at Morgan Township.
Salyer’s first two goals came via penalty kicks; her third came on a feed from sophomore Maddie Rowley with 35:30 remaining in the second half. Salyer’s second and third goals occurred within 48 seconds of one another.
Marquette held a 3-0 lead with 20 minutes to play before Rowley registered an insurance goal.
Morgan Township got on the scoreboard a minute-and-a-half later, but freshman Halana Herrera got the goal right back with 15:24 left on the clock.
Senior McKena Moore racked up ten saves in net for Marquette.
The Lady Blazers (4-9-1) will honor their senior class following the 5 pm match versus East Chicago Central.
