Junior Ana Blakely and freshman Shena Fleming both posted 11 points Tuesday night at Lake Station, but Marquette fell 56-34 to the host Eagles in sectional play.
Fleming and senior Izabel Galindo led the scoring charge with four points apiece during a promising first quarter. Blakely knocked down her first of three triples on the night as the Blazers trailed 15-13 after eight minutes.
Marquette navigated through the press with relative ease in the opening period. However, the turnover bug bit the Blazers in the second quarter. Blakely and sophomore Xaria Biggerstaff accounted for both of Marquette’s field goals in the stanza, but the Eagles outscored the Blazers 21-9 to take a 36-22 lead at the break.
Fleming (7) and Blakely (5) combined for all 12 of Marquette’s second-half points as Lake Station held on for the win.
Galindo, who finished with five points, is one of three graduating seniors. Ryleigh Grott and Mary Kate Bobillo also concluded their playing careers Tuesday.
Marquette ends the 2020-21 season at 10-7.
