Senior Ally McConnell (17) and juniors Ryleigh Grott (11) and Mary Kate Bobillo (10) posted double-figure scoring totals Thursday evening as Marquette collected a 51-44 win at Culver Academies.
The Blazers dialed it up from deep to gather an early lead. Bobillo landed a pair of threes in the first quarter while McConnell and Izabel Galindo also sank one in the period. On the back of four treys, Marquette led Culver Academies 14-12 after eight minutes.
Bobillo hit her third triple of the night in the second quarter. Meanwhile, McConnell went to work inside the arc. She scored seven points in the frame as the Blazers owned a 28-20 halftime lead.
Grott scored nine of her 11 points in the second half to quiet an Eagles comeback attempt. She had four points in the third quarter and five more in the fourth to protect the Blazer lead.
Sophomore Ana Blakely and Galindo both recorded field goals in an 11-point third quarter.
Marquette put the game away at the free-throw line, converting 13 of its 16 tries in the second half. McConnell was 6-for-8 from the stripe; Grott made five of her six foul shots.
The victory elevated the Blazers to 9-11 on the season. Marquette will host Gary Lighthouse College Prep Academy on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day. McConnell, the team’s lone senior, will be honored prior to tip-off of the 1:30 pm varsity tilt.
