The 2026-2027 year is officially underway and Marquette opened it with another strong showing in the La Porte County Invite. Backed by senior Marissa Pleasant's team-best round of 78, the Blazers assembled a team score of 345 on Monday morning to claim second place at Michigan City Municipal North Course. Junior Alaïs Acosta paired a steady 43 on the front nine with a 44 on the back. Her round of 87 represented a 15-shot improvement over her 2025 La Porte County Invite showing. Junior Kenzie Bonez-Shepherd also shed double-digit strokes from her season-opening round a year ago. She carded a birdie on No. 14 as part of a round of 89. Last year, Bonez-Shepherd finished with a 101. Senior Ava Schultz fired a 91 to round out the scoring for the Blazers. Marquette topped South Central (373), New Prairie (408), and Michigan City (433). La Porte, which was paced by medalist Anna Menne's 67 (+7), emerged with the team title by virtue of a 305 team score. Marquette faces a quick turnaround as it will compete in the Plymouth Invite at Pretty Lake Golf Club on Tuesday morning beginning at 9 am ET/8 am CT.
