Marquette closed out August in a way that will reinforce the team's goals and ambitions for the months ahead. Extended rallies keyed by the service games of Olivia Zmuda, Tilly Mahoney, and Kira Oman early on enabled Marquette to let its youth thrive later in a 3-0 (25-7, 25-18, 25-20) sweep of Whiting on Wednesday night at the Scholl Center. Mahoney made her first start of the season, while freshman Avery Puckett and sophomore Maureen Rathbun gained experience in the match-clinching game. The Blazers have not surrendered a set since the second game of their August 18th match versus Andrean - a span of 17 games and counting. The Blazers defeated the 59ers 3-1 that evening to embark on their current run of seven consecutive victories. With five of its nine home matches in the rearview mirror, Marquette (8-1) will hit the road next week for the first of five straight dates away from the Scholl Center. The Blazers will meet DeMotte Christian on Tuesday in a JV/varsity doubleheader beginning at 5:30 pm.
