A perfectly placed free kick was the difference between the result Marquette and La Lumiere played to and a scoreless draw. The Lakers converted a free kick in the 73rd minute to unknot a 0-0 clash Thursday at the Marquette Athletic Complex. The Blazers and Lakers played tight and close for all 80 minutes. La Lumiere's strike late in the second half felt like the final scoring attempt, but Marquette was awarded a penalty kick with 4:45 remaining in regulation. Senior Andrew Pleasant's attempt was stopped, however. Marquette enjoyed one strong last-gasp effort with a well-struck corner, but the try brushed off the far post and out of play. The Blazers return to the MAC Monday evening to host Morgan Township at 5 pm.
